I'm stuck just like you, no event. I have updated the game to v. 1.6.0 and I've even tried to start a new game, but there is no event at the church, neither at night nor in daytime...

Found them. There is 1 gift at every outdoor area, but there are 2 in the park and 1 on the rooftop.
